I contacted a helpline for the life in the UK test to arrange for a test, surprisingly, I was informed by a member of staff that “lifeintheunitedkingdomtest.co.uk” is not an official nor a reliable to study from, though I find it excellent for revision while preparing for the test.
How would you comment on that??!
January 1st, 2009 at 1:23 pm
i amm really very pleased nd relax study to
find this material.thanks a lot for this
useful effort.
January 1st, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Hi Gaz,
This or neither any other website is ‘official’ study source. There are two official sources to study, taking a combined ESOL course or buying the original book.
The material provided here is excerpt from the official book with the permission of Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI). This means that the reliability of the content can only be questioned in a way that we have given permission to use the material but since there are no ‘official’ checks, there can be mistakes on our version.

February 4th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Jittendra,
your web site is helpful with serious editing conflicting issues like below…..
In the key things to memorize it says
‘13 age children can take up paid work’
in the main litrature it says
‘The earliest legal age for children to do paid work is set at 14. ‘
February 4th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
hi every one is it just me or is the test trying to prove that all the people taking it are num heads, i feel deeply offended by the questions asked and also feel they have absolutely no relevenace to ordinary life in the uk plus also feel that its a money making scam.
February 5th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Hi,
I found this site so knowledgeable nd full of information and providing quick ways of learning and passing out the Test. Thanks alot for all the hard work and best of luck to all of its users.

I really appriciate the efforts you put into compiling this information and bringing it to everyone over the internet. This is extremely useful because you have used the same method that university students will normally use when they prepare for their exams. However some of the points deserve to be rephrased actually.
February 26th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
hi
really good work
god bless you
thank you
February 27th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
Thanks for the hard work to provide us with such useful material. Thanks a lot.
March 2nd, 2009 at 7:02 pm
this is obviously prepared by a person with excellent skill of teaching or rather desseminating information. you have a goal to make people find it easy to catch, store and submit on later date. some websites are just piling info without any logic hence making the whole thing look like taking a masters degree program test;( persived ) with horror.
March 12th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
good last minute revision material, thanks
March 18th, 2009 at 11:24 am
just want to appreciate for the great job you have done by providing the study materials online, It was an unacceptable gift to me as made it much much easier(time wise)to review, and surely for many others.
THANKS A LOT to you.
March 18th, 2009 at 11:27 am
sorry I was so excited to post the comment… I meant an Unexpected gift ….
March 19th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Although the overall contents of this site and the presentation is quite good, some of the points are not quite true. For e.g.
1)In the “Children, family and young people” section, the age of the children mentioned is 13-16 instead of 14-16.
2)Also I didn’t find the following point anywhere in the official book.
“more than 25 hours a week 13-14 year old children can not work during school holidays”
3) The author (Jitendra Patel) has mentioned that 1st March, 23 April & 30 Nov are day off work in Wales, England & Scotland. This is again wrong. Only in Northern Ireland its a Public Holiday (17th March).
I think before putting such content on a website for general public, the author should verify its content.
March 19th, 2009 at 5:38 pm
There is one more point I forgot to mention in my previous feedback.
It says “Since 1979, more that 25,000 refugees from South East Asia have been allowed to settle in the UK.” The number 25,000 is wrong. It should be 22,000.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:22 pm
This is a message for Mayur Shah, who is mentioning wrong details:
His message says “Since 1979, more that 25,000 refugees from South East Asia have been allowed to settle in the UK.” The number 25,000 is wrong. It should be 22,000.”
If you check page number 28 of the official guide, it does say that number is 25,000 and not 22,000 as you mentioned. So please do not convey the incorrect information.

in remembering so many facts and numbers.I am gratful to
Jitendra Patel.
Just like many great works,it has some small things omitted or has not been updated,as it may affect the scores of the applicants for test,I have to be so boldly to point out 1 point I just has found after I
tried a mock test.
‘From 1 October 2007 it is illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone under 18 years old.’
Above from the official book should update the ’16 years old children, it is illegal to sell tobacco ‘

August 4th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
I’m doing this test tomorrow. This is a decent summary of it all!
Reading previous comments about how they say that the only ‘official’ source is the handbook. Well, let’s just say that’s just a money making scheme on top of the charge for the test itself. Don’t get me started on how expensive it is to get passports and citizenship. It’s now with the recent scandals with MP’s and their ‘expenses’ that I’m most reluctant to hand over any money whatsoever to the government.
August 20th, 2009 at 5:04 pm

Fantastic Job. Thank You. But some correction may required
**”Children aged 14 or over can take up paid work”**
it should be age 13[Page 84]. advice to check the book
**Irish Gaelic dialects spoken in some parts of the Highlands and Islands**
But it should be only GAELIC and remember Highland and Islands are part of SCOTLAND[Page 37]

i would like to thank you very much for giving your time effort to make other people life easier. i have been studying the 2nd edition of the book for a week, i started doing the questions first to help me memories the important points then i moved reading the notes which somehow has helped me the way i wanted though now i wish if i had found this web at the beginning so i could read the part which is what to memorize and read the book so i would have been done easily. it would have save me the time i spent to bullet-point main points and write all that points.
well still i am glad that i found this web just before my test day which is tomorrow at list i can read it now n on my way to memories. and i would like to say for some of the people that commented about the misleading information and the web not been confirmed as a official, first there is only 1 or 2 numbers that need to be updated from the new book apart from that the rest of the information is correct and it is not fare to degrade the effort this man has put on just for some thing that is not a big deal second do just be brainwashed by the government and say this is not officially approved, of course they are not going to say go and read that instead of buying our book that is a money sours DAH. overall THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the good doing of this web …… lots of love
January 14th, 2010 at 6:51 pm

January 15th, 2010 at 2:02 pm

Thank you …very nice and informative website.
January 17th, 2010 at 6:20 pm
am glad and delighted i have passed the test would like to thank you once more for helping me to memories easily with the summarizing points. they where helpful even though i am slightly i am annoyed that i took all that effort to study the book as you would with a holy book and being given such a silly question.
an also i would like to say for those who are preparing or thinking to take the test just to not to worry that much. because the test isn’t as hard we expected it and you would have more than enough time to check your answer. it was my first time to take the test and i was done in 15 min and had to be told to came back in 30min for the result so not worth the panic lol GOOD LUCK YOU ALL
January 18th, 2010 at 6:25 am
This is a wonderful idea. Saves a lot of wading through useless portions of the LUK book.
Someone should edit it, though! I had to straighten a lot of the sentences out before I could use them.

Hi
I have passed my test today. Although I have completed the test in 5 mins, I took the remaining time to notice the types of questions asked. The weightage of the questions based on chapters are for 2 & 3 chapters, it is 3 questions each, and for remaining chapters it is 6 questions each.
I would suggest to follow the book first and then see this site for the types of the questions. This is useful for you to know the gaps in what you have studied and what you have to answer. This site is equally important as that of the book.

A slight correction to your “Dialects” section, in addition to that already given by Abrar: Gaelic is not a dialect, it’s a language. It’s one of 6 Celtic languages: Gaidhlig (Scottish Gaelic), Irish, Welsh, Manx and Cornish (the sixth is Breton, spoken in France). These Celtic languages have no connection with English. Regards

Hi, very good website. I was hoping that someone might have come across the same problem I seem to be having:
in Chapter 5 it states in the Education pages under the Assessment section that in Scotland “there are no tests for whole groups during this time”. Where “this time” refers to the “first phase” of the curriculum for ages 5 to 14. While back in Chapter 2, under Education section it states that “in England AND Scotland children take national tests in English and mathematics and science when they are 7, 11 and 14 years old.
The two sections in my mind seem to contradict each other. Have I misunderstood something.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello Admin
I was just going through “key points to remember” section of your website, under the ‘children family and young family’ heading it says: Education is free in the UK for children aged between 5 and 16
and again second line it says: Education is free in Northern Ireland for children 4 and 16
I am very confused with the term UK, I thought UK represents Northern Ireland too.
could you please get back to that point.
Thank you
